Joanna and Nic’s affection for their little girl was apparent from the first few frames of this photo shoot. We met at Garfield Park and walked around the field area, eventually ending up in the quiet woods of a small nature center. Joanna is expecting a second child, and the Merrills wanted to document this time in their lives.
As an unexpected bonus, Nic owns a Hasselblad. He casually asked me if I would take a few frames with it at the end of our shoot, and I gladly agreed. This is not the typical camera one totes around in their car. It turns out Nic studied photography and used to shoot weddings on film with a few of these cameras.
In the end, the rain held out, we walked the wet grass barefoot, and I drove home feeling refreshed.
At last! A personal blog post. The thing about being on vacation is that you have spare time to slow down and take your own pictures, and even blog them. Chris, Nora, and I arrived in Hessel, Michigan, near the Cheneaux Islands on Saturday afternoon. We are staying at a cabin on Lake Huron that my dad and stepmom Julie, have rented for the week. I’m typing this next to a cracking fire because no, it is not muggy here, nor is it 90 degrees. Happy. Pregnant. Momma.
