Snowflakes for Sandy Hook
Shannon Worsley of Lowell has been collecting paper snowflakes for Sandy Hook Elementary. At last count she had 825 snowflakes, which will be shipped to Connecticut to show support for friends and family of Sandy Hook Elementary’s 26 shooting victims.
Alright. It’s a new year, and I’m a new (posting) woman. I am going to try and be more diligent at updating this blog with daily newsroom work. Not only is it an outlet for photos to be displayed in a large and lovely way (unlike certain websites which will not be named), it keeps me accountable to myself. This blog is not about hit numbers. It’s about photos I am proud of. At least to some capacity. Most are copyrighted to MLive, and I will continue to share links to those full galleries, but this is a way to highlight a few of my favorites. It is a reminder that my photos do not simply equal a paycheck. They are of people, places, and situations, with real weight and value.
These pictures were taken in our hub lobby, with the signature MLive blue wall as my backdrop. We no longer have a studio, and I had no fancy light kit to use. I over-heard one of our reporters, Sandra Chang, talking with a woman over the phone who was collecting snowflakes made of coffee filters to help create a “winter wonderland,” for Sandy Hook students on their first day back to school.
