Buddy Kuncaitis,13, of Coral guides his pony, “Smoke,” on the family farm Monday. Buddy’s family of eight lives off the grid, without power, in their farmhouse that used to belong to an Amish family. Their farm, Maple Valley, has pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, sheep, horses and rabbits. The children help grow grapes for food, wine, and animal feed, and help with chores. The Kuncaitis family moved from Zeeland Township to their farmhouse in 2008.
