Emma Admiral, a second grader at Dutton Christian Elementary, stands on the front porch of Detray School, an old one-room schoolhouse in Gaines Township, on Monday. Admiral spent the day with her class in the schoolhouse to learn what it felt like to be a pioneer. The class used feather pens and ink wells, chalkboard slates, and played in the field behind the school during recess.
