Sarah Zylstra, a second grader at Dutton Christian Elementary, writes with a feather pen and ink well in Detray School, an old one-room schoolhouse in Gaines Township, on Monday. Zylstra spent the day with her class in the schoolhouse learning what it felt like to be a pioneer. The class used chalkboard slates and played in the field behind the school during recess.
